The 163rd edition of Tuesday Funk was on one the first cool nights we've had this fall, but the live lit kept us warm inside. Alan Lake got us started with recollections of his early years as a chef, which were at turns funny and astonishing. Next, JH Palmer read the most hilarious — or should we say hysterical? — essay about gynecological problems we'd ever heard. Then Jitesh Jaggi introduced us to a character desperate for hope in a new piece of short fiction.

We took a moment to refill our drinks, after which Esther Cowie read from her collection of poems, Heirloom. Finally, Miles Harvey shared a remembrance of a dearly departed friend.

We'll be back in the upstairs lounge at Hopleaf on November 4 with readings by Nicole Adabunu, Carmen Aiken, Tanya Kornilovich, Sara Paretsky, and Dan Sinker. Please join us! You won't want to miss it.
