August 2026 Debrief

It was yet another hot summer night on August 4 when we gathered in the upstairs bar at Hopleaf for Tuesday Funk. That didn't stop the crowd from coming to see Chicago's favorite eclectic monthly reading series!

Unfortunately Cynthia Palayo was unable to join us, but it was a great show nevertheless. Jasmine Davila got things started with an essay taking us through a typical day for her. Next, Edward Moses shared a couple slices of his own life in memoir form. We took a break, cohost Andrew read a couple of topical haiku, and Fez Avery read some of his poems about trans identity. Cohost Erin led a quick toast, and then Mary Winn Heider shared an excerpt from Eden Robins' and her new book, Don't Mess with Mo Ellery.

Tuesday Funk will be back on Tuesday, Sept. 1 with readings by Teresa Dzieglewicz, PJ Gray, C. Russell Price, Kathleen Rooney and Erin Watson. Hope to see you there!
