Meet the Readers: Joanne Jacobson

Joanne Jacobson

Joanne Jacobson has published three collections of nonfiction: Hunger Artist, a memoir on growing up in post-World War II suburbia; Every Last Breath, a set of linked autobiographical essays on chronic illness; and, this past year, In the Photic Zone, a prose chapbook probing emotional lives below the visible surface. Her personal essays and critical essays on topics ranging from literature and culture of the Midwest to photography to Tupperware have appeared in The Nation, New England Review, BOMB, The Iowa Review, Fourth Genre, Southwest Review, Bellevue Literary Review, and many other places. Most recently she has taught in the medical humanities programs at Northwestern and the University of Illinois-Chicago. After 30 years in Manhattan, Joanne is surprised to have come full circle and returned to where she grew up in Evanston.

Join Joanne and our other phenomenal readers on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 in the upstairs bar at Hopleaf! Doors open at 7pm, and the show starts at 7:30. It's free, and 21-and-over. Please RSVP on Facebook.
